Caminito del Rey

June 8, 2025

Spain is brimming with breathtaking destinations I’ve been fortunate to explore, and I’m thrilled to share them with you. Let’s kick off this journey with a gem that inspired my Ardales Pullover design: the stunning Caminito del Rey in Ardales, Málaga.

The Caminito del Rey, or "The King’s Little Path," never fails to captivate. This scenic trail, originally built in 1908 to access a dam powering Málaga province, was revamped in 2016. The old, precarious path was closed in 1999 after the dam shut down, but the new, safer walkway now welcomes adventurers. Winding along dramatic cliffs, it offers jaw-dropping views that demand countless photo stops—expect the 4-hour trek to feel like a blink! At the end, you’re rewarded with the shimmering emerald waters of Embalse del Conde de Guadalhorce. Fun fact: this is tragically where Frank Sinatra’s character, Colonel Joseph L. Ryan, met his end in the 1965 film Von Ryan’s Express.

I’ve visited this awe-inspiring spot five times, and its magic never fades. If you’re planning a trip to the area, Caminito del Rey is a must. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

The Ardales Pullover draws its name from the vibrant hues of this landscape. The yarn’s rich rust tones, accented by pops of gold, blue, and green, mirror the striking rock formations of the path—nature’s own masterpiece.

Thank you for joining me on this virtual tour! I hope it sparks your interest for this incredible destination. If you’ve got questions about visiting Spain, leave me a comment—I’d love to help!
