Gearing Up for the Colder Weather: A Cosy Cable Cardigan

As the crisp days of autumn and winter approach, I wanted to create a cardigan that feels like wrapping yourself in a warm, comforting blanket—perfect for battling the cold weather with style. Inspired by the need for soft warmth during chilly seasons, this design is my answer to those moments when you crave cosy comfort without sacrificing elegance.

The cardigan features delicate, winding cables flowing over a smooth background, creating a subtle yet captivating texture that evokes the gentle, comforting folds of a favourite throw. These soft cables add just enough intricacy to make the piece special, while the clean backdrop keeps it versatile, pairing beautifully with your most cherished jeans or a cosy top. My goal was to design something that feels like a warm hug, perfect for curling up or stepping out into the frosty air.

Knit with one strand of DK - Drops Lima (65% wool/35% alpaca) and lace - Drops Kid-Silk (75% mohair/25% silk), this cardigan is luxuriously soft and warm, with a dreamy mohair halo. The alpaca gives it some weight, but for a lighter feel with the same gauge, it can be substituted with a lofty 100% wool in DK. Available in sizes with a finished bust circumference of 39” - 59.5”/97.5 - 179 cm and with 7”/17.5 cm of positive ease, it’s perfect for layering during the colder months. Additional details are included on my Ravelry project page.
